Since 2015, L’Œil d’or – The Documentary Award has shone a new light on this genre at the Cannes Film Festival, a category which cinema itself ultimately developed from. It is an award for documentaries featured in the Cannes sections: Official selection (Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition, Midnight Screenings and Special Screenings), Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week. With €5,000, L’Œil d’or – The Documentary Award was created by the Scam then chaired by Julie Bertuccelli supported by the Cannes Film Festival and Thierry Frémaux.
