THE EDIT IS THE FILM

Drawing from her work on Black Box Diaries (BAFTA- and Oscar-nominated, 2025) and American Doctor (Sundance 2026), Oscar-nominated fi lmmaker Ema Ryan Yamazaki reveals how editing
critically shapes a fi lm, the ways it can be specifi cally devised for sensitive works on difficult topics such as sexual violence or the war on Gaza – and how directors and producers can fully leverage the power of editing.

A seaside chat with the team behind Once Upon a Time in Harlem (Quinzaine des Cinéastes 2026), originally conceived and filmed by the legendary William Greaves, his son David Greaves, and granddaughter Liani Greaves, alongside Erika Dilday, Executive Director of American Documentary and Executive Producer of POV.
